At 11:09pm on Wednesday, June 29th, Cameron made us a proud 3-person family! His entry into the world was a bit rough on him and his mom (32 hours of labor for Keri, including Pitocin, epidural and, eventually, vacuum-assisted extraction), but they're both doing great!
Little Cam enjoyed a visit from his Grandma and Grandpa Fitchett the next day (well, I think they enjoyed it even more than he did!) as well as visits from Uncle Eric and Eric's girlfriend Kate.
Keri was discharged on Friday but, sadly, Cameron had developed a case of jaundice (caused in part by the healing of injuries to his head that happened during the birth [healing nicely, thankfully!]) and had to spend a few nights under the bilirubin lights in the nursery. It was a tough couple days, since Keri wanted to be nursing as much as possible and we had to basically live in a visitors lounge at the hospital. We went home at night to get a few hours of sleep - the first good sleep in quite a while for us - and were back at 5:30am to nurse every 2 hours or so.
At least we had a pretty good view from the lounge!
In addition to Ma and Pa Fitchett being champs and hanging out with us in the hospital, we got visits from Nani and Grandpa Powlison and a bunch of Blakeman friends as well (Linda, Jeff and Jeanie with little Sophie)
(*a note on this last pic: Sophie B is emphatically not a fan of smooshed mango)
*food coma*
Finally, late Sunday afternoon the bilirubin tests came back at acceptable levels for Cameron to be discharged... We dressed him in the cute little overalls that Keri had made especially for the trip home (they had looked so tiny when she made them - but they were HUGE on him! heheh!)
*coming home - not a real fan of the carseat until the car was moving*
We are enjoying having him home now, and the 4th of July festivities happening all over the city may as well be in celebration of his first full day with us! Hooray!
*he's a bit small for the swing that our neighbors, David and Ceren kindly gave us - but he loves it!*
Ahhhhh!!! I laughed, cooed, and cried (literally) reading this post. He is SO gorgeous. I love you THREE!!!! Love, auntie Gwen
ReplyDeleteHaha, I cried too! What a weepy bunch we are! He is SO precious. And he also looks like a wee froggy in that photo of him in his carseat! :) What a beautiful boy. So glad to hear you're all home and recovering (especially you, Keri - you're looking great!!). Sending very much love and hugs all around and a snuggle for little Cam...xo
